Afghan Child Education and Care Organization
The Afghan Child Education and Care Organization operates eight orphanages in Afghanistan and two in Pakistan, all of which care for Afghan child refugees. The group was founded in Kabul in 2008 and seeks to help a generation of children heal from the trauma of war, through providing them with food, clothing, shelter, and medical care, but also offering education and job training in skills such as handicrafts, tailoring, and carpentry. The Valentino Achak Deng Foundation
The Valentino Achak Deng Foundation is a nonprofit organization working to increase access to education in post-conflict South Sudan by building schools, libraries, teacher-training institutes, and community centers. Established by Valentino Deng and Dave Eggers after the publication of What Is the What, the Foundation's first major project is the construction and operation of an 18-structure educational complex in Valentino's hometown of Marial Bai, South Sudan. Room to Read
Room to Read is a program which targets girls in lower secondary school (typically grades 5-8) who are at risk of dropping out, and helps ensure that they have the opportunity to complete school with the skills they need to succeed.
