About SPARK Reproductive Justice Now

SPARK's mission is to collaborate with individuals, communities, and organizations to grow and sustain a powerful reproductive justice movement in Georgia and the South by developing and sharing a radical analysis in order to shift culture and practice, mobilize in response to immediate threats, and organize for long-term systemic change.

Programs

SPARK’s programs combine organizing/advocacy, leadership development, political/peer education, and base building/mobilization to build and sustain a powerful Southern based reproductive justice movement for our communities.

  • Speak Justice Take Action (SJTA) seeks to build knowledge, inform our base, communities and policymakers, shift power and policy priorities and transform conditions through action-oriented organizing, participatory research, advocacy, political engagement and education.
  • Fierce Youth Reclaiming & Empowering (FYRE) seeks to support and build the leadership and power of lesbian, gay, bi, trans, same gender loving, questioning youth of color and our allies, in Atlanta and statewide through relationship building, political education, resource development, art and media work and community based research.
    • FYRE is responsible for the implementation and facilitation of our annual Media Camps, which provide opportunities for Southern LGBTQ youth of color to design, develop, and create their own media resources and encourages them to critique mass media by reclaiming their own histories and lived experiences. These engaging camps also allow Southern LGBTQ youth the opportunity to build new relationships with other Southern queer and trans youth.
    • FYRE is currently organizing the IGNITE 2012 Queer and Trans Youth Convening. The convening will provide an opportunity for LGBTQ youth of color (18-24) from across the Southern region to engage in dialogue, political education, skill shares, networking, and to begin to organize state level action plans on the issues that most impact their lives.
