RAINN’s prevention and education efforts include working with the entertainment industry, the media, colleges and local communities to help raise awareness about issues related to sexual assault.

Education through Entertainment

The entertainment industry has regularly supported RAINN. From stars like Christina Ricci, Tori Amos, Mariska Hargitay, Jennifer Aniston and Kevin Smith to television networks such as NBC, FOX and Lifetime, entertainment provides a great way to reach people with important messages about sexual assault.

Working with the Media

RAINN reaches out to the media daily with accurate statistics and relevant messages about sexual assault. In addition, members of the press routinely contact RAINN for expert commentary on pertinent issues. Please see RAINN’s Newsroom for more information.

College Outreach

College-aged women are four times more likely to be sexually assaulted than any other age group. In an effort to raise awareness among college students, RAINN coordinates RAINN Day on campuses nationwide. Every September, organizers educate thousands of students through special events and educational wallet cards featuring information about sexual assault.

Survivors Educating Communities

All of RAINN’s education programs reach local communities, but the RAINN Speakers Bureau does so most directly. Comprised of sexual assault survivors, friends and family members from communities all over the country, members frequently share their personal stories with local community groups and hometown media. Hearing about sexual assault from people who have experienced it is a vital element of public education.
